L' Heure Noire

There’s a certain feeling that arrives in late September.

The days are still warm, but the light begins to fade a little earlier. Leaves from the trees quietly turn, mosquitoes disappear with the sun, and the evenings carry the hum of bees and crickets.

At night, the windows stay open. Cool air drifts through the room, carrying the scent of distant campfires, somehow sweeter now that the nights have begun to cool.

We never know when we’re experiencing the last warmest day of the year. We only know if we’re present enough to notice it, to savour the warmth, linger a little longer, and let the moment become a memory.

Perhaps that is the quiet gift of changing seasons. Learning to let go of what was, embrace what comes next, and find something to look forward to.
